Company Overview

Family Service Association (FSA) is a comprehensive private, non-profit social service agency dedicated to the development and implementation of services designed to provide strength and support to individuals and families throughout the Southeastern Massachusetts area. Headquartered at 101 Rock Street in Fall River, the agency strives to increase the capacity of individuals and families to cope with the stresses of family life and interpersonal relationships in a positive, productive and health-improving manner.

FSA is one of the largest providers of high quality social services in the Southcoast region. A variety of specialized programs are offered which help to promote and maintain viable and satisfying family relationships while maximizing independence and quality of life to people of all ages and from all social, economic, and linguistic groups. Generally, services fall within three categories: Clinical Services, Specialized Adult and Elder Services, and Children’s Services.

We are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children (COA), an internationally recognized organization that partners with human service providers worldwide to improve service delivery outcomes by developing, applying, and promoting accreditation standards. Family Service Association is also a member agency of the United Way of Greater Fall River.

At all times, FSA strives to understand today’s needs and to anticipate those we will face in the future, through an integrated system of specialized programs that promote the fulfillment of our mission of community service.

Company History

Organized social work in the Greater Fall River community received its impetus in January of 1888, during a meeting of the Fruit and Flower Mission. A Citizens’ Committee of thirty-one, chosen that evening, met to consider organizing the Associated Charities of Fall River. On January 28, 1888, a constitution was submitted and adopted, two rooms were procured in the Durfee Bank Building and in June, the agency officially opened.

The organization functioned as a prominent civic and a social agency. It was later incorporated as The Associated Charities. In 1918, the name changed to the Association for Community Welfare, in 1935 to the Family Welfare Association, and in 1946 to Family Service Association of Greater Fall River, Inc.

Throughout the many years of service to the community, Family Service Association (FSA) has always been committed to helping families and individuals live personally satisfying and socially useful lives.
